| Point B Named One of Three Best Employers in Consulting Industry
10.30.06 Growing Firm Achieves Highest First-Time Ranking in Consulting Magazine Survey SEATTLE — In an industry where competition for talent is fierce and constant, Point B Solutions Group, LLP, has emerged as an employer of choice for top consultants. In its annual "Best Firms to Work For" list, Consulting Magazine recently named Point B Solutions Group among the top three in the industry. The magazine released the rankings following a national survey of 5,000 consultants, and Point B pushed through a crowd of large, prestigious firms to achieve the highest first-time ranking ever. "We're honored to be included in this group and to have our values and culture reaffirmed," said Tim Jenkins, Point B co-founder and partner. "This firm grew out of our belief that clients would benefit from a culture where top consultants could make an impact in their local business communities without sacrificing their personal lives. This approach has helped us attract and retain some of the best consultants in the field, and the survey shows that other firms are now moving in the same direction." The consulting industry has traditionally been known for long hours and extensive travel, but the best-ranked firms were those that helped their consultants maintain a balance between their work and personal lives, said Consulting Magazine Editor-in-Chief Jack Sweeney. "Few professionals are more insightful or as brutally honest when it comes to assessing work/life culture than consultants," he said. "Working inside the consulting profession gives people a unique view into the working lives of others. It’s a career that offers an unmatched point of comparison." A first-time entrant on the list, Point B Solutions Group was founded in 1995 by three former Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) consultants. Their goal was to create a firm that offered the variety and challenge of consulting without the travel and lack of objectivity. Almost 12 years later, the firm has established practices in Seattle, Portland, Ore., Denver, Phoenix and San Francisco and grown to more than 280 consultants. The firm is known for offering flexible work schedules and hiring seasoned consultants who live and work in the communities they serve, thus eliminating the need for consultants to travel to remote client sites. Point B consultants specialize in project leadership, which means they have the ability to step into any segment or role of a mission-critical project and help lead it to success. They also offer objective advice that is unbiased by alliances, reseller agreements other relationships that might compromise their judgment. In developing its list, Consulting Magazine scored firms based on their employees’ responses to questions in six categories—Leadership, Compensation and Benefits, Culture, On the Job, Work/Life and Career Development. The magazine will publish the full rankings as well as breakouts by individual attributes in its November/December issue. Consulting Magazine also recognized Point B in its annual "Small Jewels" ranking earlier this year. The list highlights smaller consulting firms that have distinguished themselves through innovative practices related to recruiting, client service or thought leadership.
