Point B Solutions Group, LLP, achieved national recognition for its innovative workplace practices that serve associates’ need for a balance between work and personal interests while generating measurable results for clients. In an industry known for long hours and excessive travel, project leadership consulting firm Point B is “no travel” by design, enabling associates to develop long-term relationships with clients and become active members of the local communities in which they live.

Point B, the first professional services firm focused exclusively on project leadership and execution, was named a 2007 Top Small Workplace by The Wall Street Journal and Winning Workplaces, a nonprofit whose mission is to help the leaders of small and midsize organizations create better workplaces. Selected by a national panel of small business experts, Point B was one of 15 businesses recognized for building workplace environments that encourage collegiality and professional growth, and provide an atmosphere and benefits that make employees want to stay.

“Small businesses continue to be the engine of economic growth in the U.S.,” said Marcus W. Brauchli, managing editor, The Wall Street Journal. “These small companies are leading innovators and tend to be role models for larger companies by creating an environment that encourages productive behavior.”

In selecting Point B as a Top Small Workplace among a field of 850 nominees, the judges recognized its collaborative culture, networked organizational structure and self-driven career path, which are designed to help associates achieve work-life balance without sacrificing professional growth. The firm only accepts clients in the cities in which it operates, meaning Point B consultants rarely travel.

“Since our inception in 1995, Point B is deliberate about the way we do business, sticking to our values that support the needs of both our associates and clients. We’re honored to be recognized among the nation’s best small workplaces,” said Tim Jenkins, co-founder and co-chief executive of Point B. “Because we've attracted talented, experienced consultants who otherwise would have left the industry, our clients are the ultimate winners.”

Founded in 1995 by Jenkins and fellow entrepreneurs Jim Hodge and Darran Littlefield, the firm now employs more than 330 associates in Seattle, Portland, Ore., Denver, Phoenix, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago. Point B associates meet each month for “watering holes” at local restaurants to build an internal network and discuss work issues. The firm also hosts an annual two-day retreat for every employee and enables daily collaboration through a sophisticated knowledge-sharing system that associates can query to tap their colleagues’ expertise.
