Climbing for a Cure

Joining forces to lead to a cure for cystic fibrosis

What happens when one Point B associate shares his passion—and his network—with the community?

A new annual event increases awareness, funding and progress toward a cure for cystic fibrosis.

When Point B associates combine their leadership skills with their passions and connections to the community, remarkable things can happen. In 2007, San Francisco associate Brian Herriot, whose wife has cystic fibrosis, transformed his personal quest for a cure into a major annual fundraising event that benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“It’s easy to feel helpless when you’re up against a relentless disease,” he said. “Putting the stair climb together is one small thing I’m able to do to help make a difference.”

Tapping into his Point B Network of project leaders, client relationships and connections across the broader community, Brian created and led a team effort that leveraged the experience and generosity of hundreds of people to launch the first annual Point B Climb for a Cure at the 42-story Spear Tower. The event was modeled after a similar Seattle fundraiser in which the Herriots and other Point B associates have participated.

“The Point B Network was essential to making the event a success,” Brian said. “Associates from San Francisco and Seattle joined the planning committee and contributed critical expertise in real estate and marketing. Point B underwrote the cost of the event so that all of the money raised—over $40,000—went directly to funding cystic fibrosis research. Many of the climbing teams included individuals from our clients’ companies. We’re really excited to make this a signature event that the San Francisco business community can rally around every year.

“I have been very impressed by how Point B and numerous associates from other markets got behind us and helped out in any way they could. Together with the community, we’re helping to fund the basic science that will cure cystic fibrosis.”
