The Challenge

A global sportswear retailer wanted to create a holistic, best-in-class work experience for its employees. As workforce values have changed and the speed of business accelerated, leadership saw the opportunity to reduce its campus-sized footprint with a flexible design that would increase productivity and innovation. The company engaged Point B to lead this large-scale change in space design, technology, facility services and work behaviors at its headquarters. The ultimate goal: to scale this new workplace design nationwide to stay competitive and attract and retain top talent.

Making the right move

Any workplace move is a major change for those who make it. In this case, employees were not only moving to a new building, but also leaving behind their private desks to adopt a new way of working in a more open environment. In addition to managing all budgets, schedules, planning and process design, work streams and contingency plans, we led 650 people through every aspect of this workplace transformation.

We facilitated large-scale change workshops to align key business leaders with the future design. By establishing a strong, cohesive program identity, we enabled stakeholders to communicate a holistic story and build employee enthusiasm. We led a team of employees and vendors, who became powerful change agents in driving adoption across their teams. Working closely with our client's global experience director, we took an immersive approach to training.

As an example, we developed eight "future of work" modules and facilitated them in a cadence that steadily built employees' comfort level in the four months leading up to the move. Additionally, an immersive lab was built in the old building that mirrored the new environment so that employees could see, meet, and work in the new workplace design before moving to the new building.

Honoring the culture was key to making supportive fans out of once-skeptical stakeholders and pulling off a timely, intricately planned move to the new building. Point B's desire and ability to dive deep into our client's culture enabled us to drive enthusiastic adoption of the new workplace – among leadership and across the workforce, resulting in a significant, and immediate, increase in both productivity and creativity in the new space.

In addition to managing this winning move, our culture-focused approach has equipped our client's leaders to launch a successful nationwide rollout in the days to come.
