Swedish Medical Center

Working Together to Develop Healthcare Spaces

Location: Seattle, Washington

Size:  $1.1 billion

Timeline: 2016-2017

Role: Real Estate Project Services

Seattle’s Swedish Medical Center is building two towers, one each for inpatient and outpatient services, to improve its facilities. The $1.1 billion project includes demolishing a significant part of the existing facility, requiring tenants—clinics, labs, and other facilities—to move. Some teams would move to temporary spaces, and others to their new permanent homes, but all the moves have complex interdependencies and schedule implications. As program manager for the so-called “enabling projects,” Point B brought together users, design and construction teams to conduct integrated planning, design, and construction phasing. By working together, the project plan was developed to reflect all dependencies—not just design and construction.
