Vail Resorts Development
Leading the development of prominent ski community resorts in Colorado
Location: Vail, Colorado
Size: 3,500 acres
Timeline: 1998 - 2002
Vail Resorts is the premier owner and operator of ski resorts in North America. As Vice President of Development with Vail Resorts, Mark Thorne led the startup development of two prominent projects. Bachelor Gulch Ski Village is a high-end ski community located on Beaver Creek Mountain, encompassing 2,400 acres, 500 residential units, a Ritz Carlton Hotel, a Ritz Carlton Club, a spa and a private ski club with on-mountain amenities. Mark developed over 80% of the community and sold at top-of-the-market prices ranging from $700 to $1,000 per square foot. Red Sky Ranch is a 1,100-acre mountain golf community with golf courses designed by Tom Fazio and Greg Norman, a member clubhouse, a resort clubhouse and 120 home sites. Mark directed all aspects of this project from entitlements through development, to the opening of both golf courses and the sale of all home sites.
