Data is one of the most powerful tools an organization has—especially when they can harness insights to drive measurable business value. Our Data & Analytics (D&A) team partners with customers each day to do just that – creating outcomes related to growth, profitability, and operational excellence.
We sat down with Seattle-based Analyst Anna Keenan to learn more about life as a member of our D&A team and hear about how they’re partnering across our organization to create meaningful solutions for our customers. Check out our conversation to get a behind-the-scenes look at Anna’s day-to-day life here at Point B.
Tell us a little bit about your career journey. What attracted you to Point B?
I’ve never been the person who knew exactly what they wanted to do, so I was attracted to consulting for the ability to have so many different experiences in one career. Point B stood out to me in particular for the wide range of customers and business offerings, all while being a company that highly values its people. And in my short time here so far all of that has held true! I have worked on three different projects, lived in two office locations (or Geos as we call them), and have met countless incredible people!
What does a typical day look like for you?
It might sound like a consulting cliché, but it really depends! I might join a mix of meetings, both customer and Point B-related, respond to emails, and work on whatever I may need to do for a project. Sometimes this looks like building dashboards, reviewing documentation, learning new technology platforms, or something that comes in sideways. Throughout my day, I like to get outside and go for a walk to enjoy the fresh air!
What is something you are working on right now?
I am currently on an engagement supporting a global retailer with its Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emission data management. We completed a discovery phase to understand the current state and are now wrapping up the design phase in which we developed solution architecture options for our customer. This is my second engagement with both a Data & Analytics (D&A) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) focus which is a really interesting intersection.
How does Point B support your career goals?
Point B offers many opportunities for learning and development which helps me reach my goal of gaining new skills in the data and analytics space. Aside from customer work, I have taken advantage of our external training stipend to work towards certifications and have found some amazing mentors along the way.
What is the hallmark of a great day at work?
Any day that I figure out how to solve a problem I’ve been stuck on feels like a huge success!
Any advice for those that are interested in exploring a role in Data & Analytics?
Develop your visualization skills in programs like Power BI and Tableau. Understanding how to communicate findings in a digestible manner is a critical part of working with data. Also, I would recommend looking for areas in your current work that could benefit from D&A so you can create opportunities to build your skills now.
What are you excited about for the future?
Continuing to develop my skills and understanding across different areas of the business – like the D&A and ESG engagement I’m on right now. I love that Point B offers so many opportunities to gain exposure across our organization—and meet lots of great people in the process!
Anything you would like to share before the lightning round?
I would advise anyone interested in learning more about a specific area to reach out to someone in the space and ask them about it. Everyone is very willing to share their experiences and make new connections which is one of my favorite parts of working at Point B!
Favorite vacation destination?
Greece has been one of my favorites!
Favorite food?
Dark chocolate.
Favorite season?
Winter—if there are good skiing conditions. Otherwise, I really enjoy summer.
Favorite activity to do in Seattle?
Anything outside! I love skiing, hiking and hanging at the lake.
Favorite music artist?
At the moment, Amber Mark. But Brandi Carlile is my all-time favorite!
Thank you, Anna, for giving us a peak into your life!
